New National Fund goal for this fiscal year

We are happy to announce that the National Spiritual Assembly has decided on a new National Fund goal for fiscal year 2018.  It will be $36 million to be reached by April 30, 2018.  In addition, the following are the quarterly goals for this year:

  • First Quarter (May-July 2017) - $9 million to be reached by July 31, 2017
  • Second Quarter (August-October 2017) - $18 million to be reached by October 31, 2017
  • Third Quarter (November 2017-January 2018) - $27 million to be reached by January 31, 2018
  • Fourth Quarter (February 2018-April 2018) - $36 million to be reached by April 30, 2018

The American Baha'i community has demonstrated a beautiful commitment to continually giving to the National Fund and offering this prayerful gift to the Blessed Beauty on a regular and continuous basis. These quarterly goals reflect this trend and the faith the National Assembly has in the community to meet these quarterly goals as well as the annual goal. We look forward to another great year of service to the Cause!

New OCS Feature

The Office of the Treasurer is happy to announce a new feature! Based on feedback from treasurers from around the country, it is now possible for the friends to contribute to up to 3 Local Funds if the Local Spiritual Assembly is enrolled in the Local Fund Online program.  When your Local Spiritual Assembly is enrolled in the Local Fund Online program, individuals who search for your community within the Online Contribution System will find it in the list of Funds to which they can contribute. They can then make either a one-time or recurring contribution to your Assembly's Local Fund. Please note that currently there is no earmarking option available when contributing to a Local Fund.
This new option is currently available in the OCS Desktop version only. If your Assembly is not yet enrolled, you can enroll by downloading the enrollment form on this page: http://localocs.bahai.us.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Office of the Treasurer at finance@usbnc.org.

Bicentennial guidance

Dear loved coworkers in the Cause of God,

Recently questions have come in regarding the plans being made to celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of the Birth of Bahá'u'lláh. We thought it would be timely to offer guidance in this regard as your communities make their plans.

Regarding whether accepting financial support from non-Bahá'í sponsors would be appropriate, guidance concerning who is eligible to contribute financially to the work of the Faith includes the following:

"One of the distinguishing features of the Cause of God is its principle of non-acceptance of financial contributions for its own purposes from non-Bahá’ís: support of the Bahá’í Fund is a bounty reserved by Bahá’u’lláh to His declared followers."
(From a letter written by the Universal House of Justice, dated Naw-Rúz 1974)

"The crucial point in deciding whether or not funds may be accepted from non-Bahá’í sources is the purpose for which the funds are to be used. As you know, it is absolutely forbidden in the Faith to accept from non-Bahá’ís contributions toward the work of the Cause itself. However, in addition to the work of spreading the Faith and establishing its institutions, Spiritual Assemblies also engage in humanitarian activities, and contributions from non-Bahá’í sources may be accepted towards such activities."
(From a letter written on behalf of the Universal House of Justice, dated March 6, 1983)

Since the commemoration you are planning is a Bahá’í activity, promoting the purposes and work of the Faith itself, rather than a humanitarian activity, approaching non-Bahá’í sponsors to cover its expenses would not be appropriate.

Be assured of the National Spiritual Assembly’s supplications on your behalf, that the confirmations of the Blessed Beauty may attend all your efforts undertaken in His path.

With loving Bahá’í greetings,

Office of the Treasurer
