In the exciting new message from our Supreme Body outlining the conditions of the next Five Year Plan beginning at Ridvan, they address the importance of spiritualizing our material resources:
"As institutions and agencies seek to accelerate the processes of expansion and consolidation in every land, the question of financial resources will surely claim increased attention. Indeed, an important aspect of enhancing institutional capacity over the coming years will be the ongoing development of local and national Funds. For this to occur, the generality of the friends must be invited to consider afresh the responsibility of all believers to support the work of the Faith through their own means and, further, to manage their financial affairs in the light of the teachings." (Universal House of Justice, December 29, 2015)
The development of the National Fund has reached a new milestone - we have surpassed our third quarter goal early! The third quarter goal to be reached by January 31, 2016 was $22.5 million. As of December 31, 2015 we reached $22.6 million and as of January 31, 2016 we reached $24.5 million! Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the devoted sacrifices of the believers to contribute throughout the year continuously and to reduce the tendency to wait until the final hours to contribute. For our $34 million goal to be reached by April 30, 2016, how astounding would it be if we reached it early this year, and started off this new Five Year Plan with enthusiasm and love in our hearts. We are excited to witness the accomplishments of the friends in all of their endeavors to serve the Blessed Beauty and His Cause.
Above are the links to download the most recent versions of the newsletters for kids and for youth and junior youth that were mailed to every registered Baha'i child and youth in the U.S. from ages 4-7 and also from ages 12-18. The IRA charitable rollover legislation passed by Congress was signed by the President on December 18, 2015. This law extended the IRA charitable rollover retroactively for 2015, and made it permanent with no expiration date for future years.
What this means for believers who are 70½ and older is that going forward you may make a direct transfer from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to the National Spiritual Assembly of up to $100,000 per year as a non-taxable event. There is, of course, no additional deduction allowed for this transfer. Now that the IRA charitable rollover has no expiration date, donors age 70½ and older will have the ability to plan their IRA distributions with the knowledge that the charitable IRA rollover is available as a benefit to the National Baha'i Fund, and a tax savings benefit for themselves.
In order to participate in the IRA Charitable Rollover the following criterion must be met:
*The donor must be at least 70½ years of age when the gift is made
*The transfer must be made directly from the IRA administrator to the National Spiritual Assembly
*The gifts from the IRA cannot exceed $100,000 per person ($200,000 total for a couple with separate IRAs) in a given year
*The direct transfer must be an outright gift (you cannot fund a charitable gift annuity with these funds)

You may be aware of various events facilitated by staff of the Office of the Treasurer to further connect the hearts of the believers with the Funds of the Faith. One such event is a deepening titled "Lifeblood of the Cause", which is a one or two day intensive utilizing quotations from the Writings about our spiritual and material lives, as well as interactive activities and discussions. The following are upcoming dates and locations for this deepening:
- January 30, 2016 - Irvine, California*
- February 13, 2016 - Phoenix, Arizona
- March 26, 2016 - Gainesville, Florida
In addition, the night before there is an evening deepening with the youth titled "Young, Broke & Spiritual", which is for youth ages 18-30 and addresses topics of interest and concern for their lives. This session addresses the relationship of the Fund to topics of interest such as choosing a calling, marriage, family life, and other areas of their lives and how they relate to spiritual and material reality.
Please share this information with the friends in your community. To find out more information, register for these events, or to request a deepening in your area, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
